Christie Isn’t Running…Get over it! by Finneus (October 15, 2011) For about the tenth time, Chris Christie officially announced that he will not be running for the Republican presidential nomination. Christie, the New Jersey governor touted by some conservatives as the I Ching of conservatism, is just the latest in a string of political heartthrobs conservatives think can bring this country back to its former glory. A segment of the conservative movement has continued urging Christie to run even though he has officially announced several times that he would not. Maybe it is some sort of post traumatic stress disorder caused by candidates like Dole and McCain, but conservatives continue to think the political grass is always greener with another candidate. Think back to the days when McCain was searching for his running mate. Conservatives were screaming names like Bachmann, Santorum, and Pawlenty. Where is the support for them now? Bachmann and Santorum are currently tied at 3% in the latest poles while Pawlenty has dropped from the race! Everyone was talking about Texas Governor Rick Perry and how HE would be the Savior of the Republican nomination. Perry is at 19% in the polls, still 4 percentage points behind the leader Mitt Romney. Republicans need to take a serious look at the field they have. It is a diverse spectrum of conservative ideas, philosophies, plans, and personalities that the Republican Party has not seen for a long time. From the isolationist policies of Ron Paul to the Republican Lite of Mitt Romney, the Tea Party backed Bachmann and Cain to the experience of Gingrich, the jobs-producing Governor Perry to Governors Johnson and Santorum…they all have good ideas and any one of them would make a better President to this Nation than Barack Obama has. If you haven’t seen any of the debates, pull them up on YouTube, watch them in their entirety and you will see what I mean. There are some great candidates there. |
